The American "techno-right" is taking over TikTok: among the buyers of the Chinese social network are the Murdoch family, Oracle, and Dell.

TikTok like Musk's X?

After X , the former Twitter that became the social network and mouthpiece of the global far right following its acquisition for 40 billion dollars by Elon Musk , until a few months ago Donald Trump 's "shadow president" in the United States and his main financial backer in the 2024 presidential elections, the American " techno-right " is aiming for another social network.
Let's talk about TikTok , the most popular platform in the United States and most used by Gen Z, with 170 million users. TikTok is currently owned by the Chinese company ByteDance , but due to the "TikTok ban," a law that blocks the social network in the United States unless it is sold to non-Chinese companies, it risks becoming unusable.
The law was driven by US authorities' fears that TikTok could be used by the Beijing government to influence American public opinion or access user data . The TikTok ban was proposed by Trump in his first term and passed under Joe Biden with the support of both major US parties in April 2024.
For this reason, according to what US President Donald Trump revealed, a consortium of US entrepreneurs defined as "American patriots" will acquire the company to avoid its blockade: Trump named Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch , respectively the founder of the huge media group Fox Corp and his son, current head of the company, Oracle boss Larry Ellison , who recently became the richest man in the world, surpassing Musk, and Michael Dell , head of the eponymous IT company. All are tycoons of proven "Republican faith".
Many mysteries and doubts remain surrounding the acquisition plan: negotiations are still ongoing, and it's unclear when or how ByteDance's sale to the consortium will take place. Until a few days ago, ByteDance had opposed the sale, then last week the White House announced an agreement with the Chinese government, a topic that was reportedly also discussed in a phone call between Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping .
The future company's structure, as anticipated by the Associated Press, would include six Americans out of seven members on the board that oversees US operations, and Oracle would be responsible for data, security, and algorithm control.
